Popular Plastic Surgery Procedures and their Recovery Times

One question that is asked quite often is “How long will it take to recover from “X” procedure? It truly depends on the surgery. We have provided the top cosmetic plastic surgery procedures. The recovery times that are provided are for when you would be able to get back to a “normal” schedule.

It is difficult to give an absolute number for recovery times as they are dependent on various factors such as age, health status and type of procedure performed. However, knowing what to expect and following Dr. Csaba Magassy’s post-operative care instructions will make a big difference in the results. The initial healing takes a few weeks for an individual to get back to their normal routine. However, it can take some time for the swelling, changes in skin sensation, and bruising of the skin to resolve.

Breast Augmentation

Dr. Magassy is experienced in the latest techniques in breast enhancement, and whether he performs a breast lift, breast enlargement/augmentation, or a combination of procedures, his goal is to first understand the individual desires of the patient and then tailor the procedure to meet those needs

Recovery from breast augmentation typically takes from a few days to two weeks. Your breasts will be swollen and sore for several days after breast augmentation surgery. You will need to limit your activity for several weeks.

Tummy Tuck

We all desire a flat tummy but age, child bearing, lack of exercise and weight gain are the enemies in this battle. However, a tummy tuck (Abdominoplasty) is an excellent answer to achieve a flatter stomach. Although abdominoplasty is a more popular procedure for women, Dr. Magassy has achieved positive results on men.

This more aggressive surgery is most often performed under heavy sedation with local anesthesia. Because this is a more aggressive surgery, recuperation usually takes several weeks to see the final results. The length of time for recovery varies greatly depending on the extent of the abdominoplasty and the general physical condition of the patient.

Most patients can return to work from one to three weeks following surgery.

Laser liposuction, also known as “liposculpture”, “laser lipolysis” and “laser lipo”, has revolutionized the fat loss and has mad the agony of regular liposuction a thing of the past. Basic liposuction involves the use of a hollow metal tube called a cannula to remove extra fat., by liquefying and removing the fat by negative pressure. The cannula is placed through incisions and afterwards, these incisions are closed up with stitches – bruising and pain will follow. BodyTite, on the other hand, is minimally invasive with a quicker recovery time that dissolves the fat and shrinks the skin.

It usually takes about two weeks to fully recover from liposuction, but if a small area was treated you should be able to return to work within a few days. If a large area was treated you may need up to 10 days off work to recover.

Of all plastic surgery procedures, nose enhancement, or rhinoplasty, is among the most common. Nose enhancement can be performed on any part of the nose, to increase or reduce its size, to modify the size and shape of the nostrils, tip or bridge of the nose, or to alter the slope or angle of the nose. Rhinoplasty may also be performed to correct an injury or birth defect, or to improve breathing.

In most patients, it takes roughly 6 weeks for the bones in your nose to heal following surgery. During this time, you should avoid strenuous exercise. Even movements that seem harmless like stretching, lifting, or bending over can increase nasal swelling.

Face Lift

Now more and more women and men are appreciating that a facelift could be the answer for them. The “plastic” or pulled look that was the signature of a facelift of old is no longer the result being obtained. In fact, often no one can tell that you have had a facelift, yet you can look up to ten years younger and look younger naturally.

The average facelift done today lasts ten to fifteen years, and follow-up procedures can be performed to keep you looking as good as you can for many more years to come.

Recovery time from a facelift (rhytidectomy) will vary depending on the individual, but as a general rule, for most people of good health, noticeable swelling will be reduced within the first 10 days after surgery. Typically, most of our patients are able to return to work after 10 days to 2 weeks post op.

Whatever procedure you have done, don't be impatient; some individual patients bounce right back, and some don't. Give your body time to heal. It may take a few months just for the swelling to completely go down, and scars will fade over time.
